Services

Comprehensive veterinary services for your beloved pets.

Primary Services

Medical

At Four Paws Animal Clinic our focus is on preventive medicine to improve the quality and life span of your pet companion.  Preventive medicine includes vaccinations, strategic deworming, flea and heart worm prevention, thorough examinations and laboratory screenings to maintain the health of your pet.  We strive to educate our clients about their pets’ healthcare so that they may make informed decisions for them.

If your pet becomes ill,  Four Paws and its doctors are equipped to diagnose and treat him/her.  Our team of doctors works together to get your family member well and home as soon as possible.  We believe that healing occurs best in a warm, safe and comfortable environment, and believe recovery is more likely at home.  We strive to return your pet home as quickly as possible once recovery begins.

Services offered: wellness exams, vaccinations, microchip implantation, puppy/kitten care, senior care, in-house diagnostics and laboratory, hospitalization, electrocardiogram, blood pressure testing, radiology, glaucoma testing/management

Surgery

Our doctors tailer each anesthetic and surgical plan for your pet based on the results of pre-anesthetic bloodwork, a thorough exam of your pet, as well as anesthetic and medical history.  Anesthesia is made as safe as possible by choosing anesthetic drugs best suited for your pet, and monitoring the following parameters throughout the procedure: electrocardiogram, heart rate, exhaled CO2, pulse oximetry and body temperature. All surgical and dental patients are placed an a ventilator to precisely control the delivery of oxygen and anesthetic gases.

Services offered: spay (females), neuter (males), cystotomy, mass removal, gastrointestinal foreign body removal, episioplasty, resection and anastomosis, amputation of digits or limbs, stenotic nares, entropion/ectropion, gastropexy and a variety of other soft tissue surgeries.

Note: We do not perform ear cropping surgery.

Dentistry

Four Paws Animal Clinic offers the highest quality dental care.  Our dental suite is self-contained to prevent harmful oral bacteria from contaminating surrounding areas.  It includes digital dental radiography, and the same top-of-the-line anesthetic monitoring and ventilator we use in our surgery suite.  All dental patients are placed on a wet-prep table and are warmed with a Bair Hugger, a forced-air warming device, to maintain body temperature during the procedure.

Services offered: ultrasonic scaling, polishing, digital dental radiography, extractions, oral surgery including mass removal, hyper plastic gingivectomy, epulis excision, and other oral surgeries.

Pharmacy

We have a full veterinary pharmacy on site to provide the best and safest medications to your pets. If your pet requires a specialty medication that is not in our pharmacy we work with an outside veterinary pharmacy that employs a veterinary-trained pharmacist who understands the different physiologies of dogs and cats, and the pharmacology of the medications we use.

Please note that SC Code of Regulations requires a Veterinarian-Client-Patient Relationship to be in place for a veterinarian to prescribe or dispense medications

SC Code of Regulations Chapter 120 Section 1.C. states:

 “Veterinarian-client-patient relationship” means:

(1) The veterinarian has recently seen and is personally acquainted with the keeping and care of the animal through an examination of or visit to the premises where the animal is kept.

(2) The veterinarian has assumed the responsibility for making clinical judgments regarding the health of the animal and the need for medical treatment.

(3) The veterinarian has sufficient knowledge of the animal to initiate a general or preliminary diagnosis of the medical condition of the animal.

(4) The veterinarian is available or has arranged for emergency coverage for follow-up and evaluation.

(5) The client has agreed to follow the veterinarian’s instructions.

(6) The veterinarian-client-patient relationship lapses when the licensee has not seen the animal within one year.

Other Services

Lab/Diagnostics

We have a full-service diagnostic lab in-house where we can test blood, urine, and fecal samples to help our veterinarians manage your pet’s health.  For complex or unique lab services, we may send specimens to specialty labs,  We offer cardiac screening with electrocardiography (ECG).

Radiology

We offer on-site digital radiology services that provide more detailed images along with the ability to submit images to be read by a board-certified radiologist.

Education

Our veterinarians believe in the importance of client education. Our doctors and staff are always happy to educate clients on their pets’ well-being, diet, behavior, activity, medical conditions, and post-surgical care. If you have a question about your pet, please ask.

Parasite Control

All domestic dogs and cats in the Midlands should be on a heartworm preventative and flea control. All dogs and cats, inside or outside, are susceptible to flea and tick infestation. We can help you find the best coverage for your pet. Intestinal parasites carried by dogs and cats can pose a threat to humans, especially children and the elderly. Veterinary heartworm preventatives are used to combat these parasites.  Our staff can help determine the best antiparasite plan for your pets based on their lifestyle.

Dietary Counseling

Obesity has become one of the leading problems in the pet health care field. Overweight animals suffer from a variety of problems ranging from arthritis, skin disease, diabetes, and decreased life span. We can provide the most  current diet recommendations based on your individual pet’s life stage and lifestyle.
